Repairability: a lever for fleet availability

Reading time: 2 minutes

Before repairing a part, you need to know whether it can be repaired. This assessment affects return-to-service times and maintenance costs, which is why Hutchinson makes it a key part of its Services offering.

Deciding earlier to limit downtime

A late or uncertain diagnosis can extend the time an aircraft is grounded. Conversely, quickly assessing the condition of a part makes it possible to plan the intervention and anticipate the resources needed. Responsiveness therefore starts with the technical assessment.
At Hutchinson, this step draws on product knowledge and expertise in materials and industrial processes. This know-how makes it possible to establish whether an item of equipment is repairable, then identify a solution suited to the operator’s needs.
The goal is to reduce downtime and gain better control over maintenance costs, while extending equipment service life where repair is both possible and relevant. Safety and reliability requirements frame this decision.

Four areas of expertise supporting equipment throughout its life

Hutchinson’s Services offering combines four complementary activities to meet operators’ needs throughout the equipment lifecycle.

  1. MRO: maintenance, repair and overhaul operations on engine, airframe and cabin equipment, through an international network of Part-145 approved shops.
  2. Mods & Conversion: modifications, retrofits, upgrades and conversions, with Part-21J approval for design and Part-21G approval for production.
  3. Industrial Services: qualified teams supporting on-site operations, at final assembly lines (FAL) and in MRO centers.
  4. Spare Parts: supply of spare parts worldwide, throughout the equipment lifecycle.

An international network close to operations

A decision made at the right time requires being where the aircraft is. Present in Europe, the United States, Asia and North Africa. Hutchinson relies on a network of industrial facilities, and its experts can also travel directly to operators’ sites. For a fleet spread across several continents, the response adapts to where the aircraft is located.
